Vacation In Alaska – Places to Go and Things To do
Over one million adventurers visit the extraordinary and unspoiled beauty of Alaska. People just can't seem to get enough of Alaska's most popular tourist attractions. Since there are a lot, and you, as a traveler, may not have enough time to drop by each one of them, here is a helpful list that contains some of Alaska's most wonderful destinations that you should not miss.
1. Kenai Fjords National Park
This U.S. National Park was built in 1980 and covers almost 700,000 acres of land. Once you get here, you would see huge glaciers and exotic marine animals and plants that would surely take your breath away. The park would give you an easy access to the Harding Icefield, which is among the four major United States ice caps. The waters are home to porpoises, killer whales, sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters and many more. There is also a terrestrial park where you could enjoy the lush environment where bears, moose, goats, eagles and birds thrive.
2. The Girdwood Alyeska Ski Resort
Your trip to Alaska would not be complete if you would not try skiing. Just a few miles from Anchorage, Girdwood Alyeska is the biggest ski destination in Alaska. People who like to slide and ski down the slopes would definitely find the thrill they are looking for here at the Girdwood Alyeska. More than 200,000 tourists visit the resort every year. Many skiing and snowboard competitions have been held here including the U.S. Alpine Championships. It is also where many members of the highly respected U.S. Ski team train. There are also many hotels to book for your ski vacation.
3. Juneau
Finally, your whole Alaska trip would be much more fun if you include Juneau in your itinerary. Juneau is the capital of Alaska and is the largest city in the U.S. in terms of area. Among all the cities in Alaska, Juneau experiences the mildest type of climate. It is also only accessible by air or sea. That is why cruise ships and ferry boats are a common sight in this city. Fishing is one of the most common activities here in Juneau. You could avail of any of the tour packages that include this. You could also explore the wilderness and get a good look at the magnificent mountains that envelop the city and its surroundings.

We want to move to Juneau, Alaska from Oregon. We have 2 vehicles. What is the best way without driving?
We want to move in june or july, 2 adults, 4 kids, 1 jeep, 1 pickup, 2 small dogs and the vehicles will be full of our belongings. What is the best way..no passports to drive thru canada.
I agree with the previous answerer. Take the ferry from Bellingham. Be sure and get reservations asap. The ferries sometimes fill up in the summer, especially the staterooms. It's a fun trip and the boat travels the same waters as the cruise ships. It will be an adventure for your family. It will cost some money, though. You will have to pay passage for both cars, plus passenger fare for each member of your family. Your dogs will have to stay in the car. They have car deck calls for people to go down to the car deck and walk their dogs. You can also get off the boat when it is in port, and walk your dog near the docks. So, you will want to have food dishes, water, food, leashes, and poop bags for your dogs. (If you decide to go through Canada, then you will need a vet's health papers for each dog.)
There are staterooms on the ferry, and you can also sleep on deck in sleeping bags. Since you have kids, you might want to go ahead and get a stateroom. It will be a contained place for the kids to play. You can bring food and drinks on board and feed the kids in the stateroom or on deck. There is also a cafeteria, if you want to purchase food. There is no cooking on board, and you can't eat your home bought food in the cafeteria. The scenery is beautiful and they sometimes have movies and other programs on board, but you will want to bring things for your kids to do for the duration of the trip. They will need coats if they want to go outside on deck to look at whales, etc.
If you find that the cost is too high, then you need to suck it up and get passports for everyone and drive to Haines or Skagway and take the ferry to Juneau from there, which is a cheaper ride. You still have time, and you will need them if you ever want to drive north to Anchorage or Fairbanks. If one of you does not qualify for a passport, then maybe you can find a relative of friend who wants to go on a trip to be the other driver, and the other person can fly directly to Juneau. You will need your car registration, children's passports, proof of insurance, and if there was a divorce, notarized permission of the non-custodial parent, to be able to cross the border. Check with both US and Canada customs for more information.
Housing is hard to find in Juneau. Be sure and have something lined up ahead of time.
